Description

The Virtual Reality installation BERLIN IMPORTIERT deals with the immigration history of guest workers in Berlin on three time periods on a section of Karl-Marx-Street in Neukölln. The 1960s as a period of reconstruction, then the 1990s, a time in which immigration was solidified and a generation had already grown up in the city, and the present, showing how the immigration shaped Berlin today. Characteristic locations such as a restaurant, a market and a living room turn into immersive abstract spaces, providing an insight into personal stories, memories and cultural influences. The aim is to use Virtual Reality to create a deeper connection to the history of guest workers and raise awareness of their impact in the development of Berlin.
